In silence at my seat
When I take the words within my heart
Give them meter, rhyme and feet
I honor best my love for You
In the turning of a phrase
To me iamb pentameter
Is just another form of praise
And when my heart is lonely
Too weighted down with care
Measured, structured haiku
Becomes my avenue of prayer
And as joy explodes within me
That cannot be contained
Then free verse flowing, tumbling
Cries out Your glory to exclaim
O Lord, Your unique creation
Has tied stanzas 'round my soul
Wrapped in words, adorned with adjectives
A lyric offered makes me whole
And though I sing along-
When my words pour forth in poetry
It is my truest worship song
